PRESENT POSITION: Douglas E. Braunstein is a Valuation Consultant with the Washington, D.C., area office of Klaris, Thomson & Schroeder, Inc.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS: Mr. Braunstein is a member of the Maryland State Bar and the District of Columbia Bar. Mr. Braunstein is also an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) in the valuation of businesses by the American Society of Appraisers.

EXPERIENCE:Mr. Braunstein has prepared controlling and minority interest valuations for numerous types of closely held businesses for purposes of estate planning, estate taxes, gift taxes, employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), marital dissolution, business dissolution and corporate planning.  Mr. Braunstein also has experience in valuation intangible assets such as patents, royalties and website & domain names.

EMPLOYMENT: Before joining Klaris, Thomson & Schroeder, Inc. Mr. Braunstein was a Manager of Public Policy with Cox Enterprises, Inc. where he worked on various legislation dealing with estate tax, corporate reorganizations, and the tax treatment of intangible assets and intellectual property. Prior to that, he was an associate with a law firm where he participated in a variety of corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, public and private equity and debt offerings. Before his association at the law firm Mr. Braunstein was a senior auditor and assistant tax manager with Marriott International, Inc., where he organized and conducted audits and participated in evaluating and implementing tax planning for Marriott’s business and operations.

EDUCATION: Mr. Braunstein attended Ithaca College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. Mr. Braunstein also attended Vanderbilt University School of Law, where he earned the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence.
